About the show

Common Tongue is a new play written and directed by Fraser Scott presented in association with Cumbernauld Theatre in September 2024.

Common Tongue is a stravaig through how we spik and why we hate it.

A fast-pace and quick witted one-person show appraising Scots and the modern attitude towards it. An exploration of Scottish language, identity, its intersections and patter.

Common Tongue sees Bonnie, a young woman from Renfrewshire, navigate her relationship with the way she (and the audience) speaks, coming to grips with the implications of her language, dialect and accent.

Common Tongue is funded by Creative Scotland.
